VOTER REGISTERATION-ABSENTEE VOTING-VOTING ON NOVEMBER 3RD

President of the Greenville NAACP held a Press Conference on Sept. 3rd to encourage everyone to prepare for the November 3rd election

REGISTRATION

– 29 Days left to Register to Vote – Last Day to Register is October 2, 2020

– If you were registered but did not vote in the last Presidential Election your name has been purged and you need to register. Go online at scvotes.gov or go to County Square or contact the NAACP for a paper form or any assistance.

– If you are 18 years old on or before Nov. 3, you can register to vote.

– If you are no longer on parole or probation, you can register to vote. If you are in jail but have not been convicted of a crime, you can register to vote.

Two Ways to Vote Absentee:

1. In Person – beginning Sept. 28th you can go to County Square to vote. Wear mask and gloves to use the machine

2. By Mail – You call 864-467-7250 to request the Absentee Application first. Complete and mail this application back.

Second, the Election office will mail you the ballot. Complete, mail it back or hand deliver.

If you want to volunteer to take people to the vote, or set up your own voter registration event, we will help you just call.

October 2nd — Last day to register to vote for the November General Election (In person registration will end at 5 PM on Friday, October 2nd)

October 20th — Last day to correct an address for the Nov. General Election.

October 30th, 5 pm, Last day for ballots to be mailed for those with signed applications.

November 3rd – GENERAL ELECTION DAY

Ø The 2020 National NAACP Virtual Convention
Inclusive of program and advocacy tracks, workshops, and discussions will take place on September 13-18.

The Convention is open to other NAACP members as well.

The new quick job basic cooking skills program.

The Quick Jobs Programs are both for the back of the house (cooking) and front of the house (service) the cooking program is an 8-day program and the service program is a 5-day program.

An overview of the culinary program includes:

DAY 1: Orientation and Knife Skills

DAY 2: Pantry Cook: Salads and Eggs

DAY 3: Prep Cook: Stocks, Soups, and Sauce

DAY 4: Prep Cook: Pasta, Potatoes, Grains, Rice

DAY 5: Line Cook: Sauté

DAY 6: Line Cook: Stews and Braises

DAY 7: Line Cook: Fry and Desserts

DAY 8: Restaurant Simulation Day

Along with the program includes professional etiquette coursework, personal hygiene, and ServSafe Food Handler certification. The program’s focus is also to place 100% of our participants with jobs in the immediate area.

An overview of the service training program includes:

– Learn menus, preparation methods, and your 6 o’clock

– Salesmanship

– Serving Procedures and Techniques, Clearing and Resetting Tables

– Understanding Position Numbers, Table Setting Techniques

– Point of Sale Basics

– How To’s: Reservations, Seating, and Remembering Customer Names

– Managing Customer Needs and Complaints

– Setting Up Table Diagrams

– ServSafe Food Handler and TIPS Training

Meeting Monday thru Thursday for 2 weeks from 8:30 – 3:30.

Presented in partnership with Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) and South Carolina ETV

Tuesdays September 8, 15, 2020 via Zoom 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.

The history of voting in America makes plain that voting rules have always been entangled with broader issues of wealth, class and race, and political parties. At our country’s founding, only white men who owned property were allowed to vote. 244 years later, we celebrate the centennial of the 19th Amendment, guaranteeing the right to vote for white women, and the sesquicentennial of the 15th Amendment, declaring that the right to vote cannot be denied because of a person’s “race, color, or previous condition of servitude.”

Ø The Voting Rights Act helped secure free and fair elections in the United States — but some legislators have spent decades chipping away at it. August 7th was its 65th anniversary, the GOP is openly suppressing voters across the country.

John Lewis’ legacy deserves better. We need to honor his legacy by fighting to make sure every American can cast their vote freely.

The election in November will be the most important of our lifetimes. Let’s continue fighting for what Congressman Lewis wanted for our country. Will you add your name today?
